Future Initiatives
STEM Inclusion Initiatives
These initiatives and programs represent CSL鈥檚 new strategic focus on building more inclusive STEM learning experiences for a more diverse student population. 听
Partnerships, sponsors, and grants to support these initiatives and programs are sought both internally at CU and externally by CSL鈥檚 leadership and Fellows. 听
This list is not static 鈥 it is intended to both describe the kinds of systemic and cultural changes needed in STEM learning cultures and to inspire collaborators to contribute to these efforts with CSL.
Affiliate Action Groups for STEM Education
Creating a learning community of 鈥淎ffiliate Action Groups鈥 centered on emerging STEM education challenges and opportunities.
Establish a peer-mediated (talk-act-do) Affiliate Action Group work model that integrates post-secondary STEM educators with workforce partners for translating DBER into workforce-relevant educational practices that will transform post-secondary student learning experiences.
Stand up a network of 4 pilot Affiliate Action Groups Affiliation Groups to test and refine the work model, based on critical emerging STEM education focus areas:
- AI: challenges and opportunities to revolutionize higher STEM education practice
- STEM identity development and persistence: through better workforce Internships and Externships
- Pathways: Between and within disciplinary majors, interinstitutional (transfer students, CCs), and toward multidisciplinary workforce and community internships and placement
- Beyond STEM: Re-framing the value of STEM to society through innovations in STEM communication and advocacy
Convene, cohere, and expand the network of Affiliate Action Groups through a 6-month rhythm of convenings; in-person symposium events at CU Boulder inter-woven with virtual workshops:
- To create forums to draw together STEM educators with workforce partners and STEM students for peer-mediated work
- Advancing the work of Affiliate Action Groups
- Share DBER findings and develop translations into practice
- Forge new relationships and organizational partnerships
